Newars of Kathmandu valley had been trading with Tibet with the royal matrimonial ties since the 8th century till 1956AD. During this period, silver craftsmen from Patan city had been responsible in creating unique gift items and minting silver coins for these traders. |

Kanak Shakya
Our 42 year old Kanak Shakya is one of those
silver craftsmen who still know how to create these
ancient silver gift items. Among more than 200
silversmiths in Patan city, the world heritage city
of fine arts, he is the master in creating silver
animal figures which is now a rare silver artwork.

Mahesh Bajracharya
Born
in 1971, Mahesh Bajracharya is the second
generation silversmith in this family of six of
Patan city. He has been making silver jewelry for
the past 17 years. Their specialty in silver crafts
is in making handmade silver filigree
items including bracelets, pendants, earring and
necklace. He, along with his parent, brother, sister
and wife had mastered the craftsmanship of filigree
work which is handmade art from start to finish.

Adil Qazi
Born in early 1960, Adil Qazi and his brother Parvez
learned jewelry making from their mother which
happens to be their family crafts for 3 generations.
By education Adil is an economist but he adopted the
family trade when they family settle down in Nepal
after they left their ancestor home in Tibet after
the Chinese invasion in 1950s. The brothers create
unique design out of beads found at the foot of the
Himalayas following the theme of the beads. |

Born in 1953, Prem Bajracharya, the seventh generation goldsmith has been continuing his family crafts located at Thimi town. His family is the master craftsmen in authentic jewelry of Kathmandu valley.
