Kathmandu has been launched to support artisans and craftsmen
and women living in and caring for historical cities like
Kathmandu. These magnificent creations of human imagination and
ingenuity are in danger of becoming pushed into history as mere
archeological sites. These cities can be preserved, made livable
and managed. Further, with the help of the artisans and
craftsmen and women we can make these cities bankable and
competitive as destinations. The UNESCO World Heritage City
listing also greatly helps this cause.
Crafted in Kathmandu is not a
handicraft business. It is in the serious business of
preserving, conserving and restoring the historical World
Heritage City of Kathmandu with the residents. The challenge is
to create an enabling environment where the built, living and
natural heritage is cared for and paid for by the products and
services of its artisans and crafts persons who have the skills,
knowledge and resourcefulness to make this happen.
